I'm An Artist
Calling all Artists!
The third annual GlassFest FireArts Show, May 26 & 27, 2012 will be a showcase for contemporary fine art in the mediums of glass, ceramics, metals and jewelry. This juried show will be part of GlassFest, a four day event celebrating the history of glass and glassmaking in Corning, New York. Corning is consistently named one of the top small art towns in the US, and has had a national art show each July for over 20 years, averaging over 70 vendors and attracting more than 5000 people annually.
Corning is within an easy day's drive of several major US cities, such as Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. It is the third largest tourist destination in New York State.
This show aims to feature excellent work in art which use fire, or intense heat, in creating or forming the fundamental material of the work: glass, ceramic and metal are all born in fire, hence the name, FireArts.
The GlassFest FireArts Show will be held outdoors on Market Street, in Corning's Gaffer District. Market Street is the primary commercial center of the city, and a short walk from both the Corning Museum of Glass and the Rockwell Museum of Western Art. Ample parking is available nearby and is free on weekends.
Artists must vend from tents to protect from sun and rain. Tents also allow work to be sealed and secured after vending hours. If an artist does not have his/her own tent, Corning's Gaffer District can provide a source where tents can be rented locally in Corning. Artists are responsible for merchandise and tent security overnight.
